On December 1st, 2016 the Gambian people voted their autocratic President Yahya Jammeh out of office after 22 years in power and elected Adama Barrow a business man as their new president. Jammeh publicly conceded defeat, but a week later announced that he was annulling the election results and would not step down. A grass roots movement #Gambia Has Decided emerged in reaction. Activists initially set up billboards with the slogan #Gambia Has Decided. The billboards were soon torn down by Jammeh loyalists. Not to be intimidated or deterred the activists turned to spray painting the slogan to make it harder to erase.
